I am a victim of sexual harassment through e-mail. I am
doing some research regarding my case. I came across
"E-Law 4 by David J. Loundy" and made further readings on
"Policy on Internet Sexual Harassment". I have found
some answers to some of my questions. Thanks to

I happened upon your website as I was trying to find information about Ron Paul's Family Education Freedom Act.
I must say I was pretty apalled by what I found. You want us to believe that you are furthering the cause for Moderation. Yet, so-called right wing conservatives are the only group of people you seem to oppose.
Why is our country so against being examples of morality, decency, honesty, and responsibility for the future leaders of our nation? These are GOOD things! You have posted horrifiying emails from the children who are so grateful to you for helping to keep the porno running free and clear. These should be wake up calls to all who feel it takes a "village to raise a child." Look at the type of children you are raising!
It seems so easy for everyone to forget that our country WAS founded on Christianity. I haven't forgotten, and will be praying for the healing of our nation.

I would appreciate it if someone would provide the source of the "quote" from de Tocqueville about America being great and good. See the referenced website for information about de Tocqueville, including the information that no scholar has ever been able to find that quote in his writings:
http://www.tocqueville.org/chap3.htm
There are some valid quotes, however:
"Within these limits the power vested in the American courts of justice of pronouncing a statute to be unconstitutional forms one of the most powerful barriers that have ever been devised against the tyranny of political assemblies." from Democracy in America. Part I, Ch. 6, 1835. Or
". . . . there is no medium between servitude and license; in order to enjoy the inestimable benefits that the liberty of the press ensures, it is necessary to submit to the inevitable evils that it creates." Ibid, Ch. 9
Or perhaps this is the quote you were thinking of:
"If I were asked. . . to what the singular prosperity and growing strength of that people [the Americans] ought mainly to be attributed, I should reply: To the superiority of their women." Ibid., Third Book, Ch. 12

The quote is from an article entitled "Religious Right Groups Target Children" written by David Horowitz and Becky Levin and appearing in a May 28, 1996, League of Women Voters of Virginia handout. The segment which contains your quote reads as follows: "While the motivation of supporters of this legislation sounds innocuous, they sing a different tune on right wing radio programs. Greg Erken, Executive Director of 'Of the People,' the conservative organization leading the push for parental rights legislation at the state level, has said that this legislation is necessary 'to challenge outcomes based education and condom distribution, to stop the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Children and potentially to restrict or remove materials from public libraries.'"

I happened upon your site which includes an alleged quote from me which says that the Parental Rights Amendment is "necessary" to remove materials from libraries. Where did you get this quote from? I'm quite sure it is out of context. When I was Executive Director for Of the People, the Amendment's sponsor, we were very careful to point out that while the Amendment would likely give parents greater ability to monitor and regulate what their own children might view at a public library, it couldn't be used to remove material from the library.
Please provide the source for the quote, and the complete quote for perhaps better context. Thanks.

For a group supposedly representing the mainstream, I see nothing but liberal philosophy at this site. I tried reading through most of it, but was so fed up with the liberal ideology I could not continue.
It amazes me how people who consider themselves proponents of our First Ammendment rights are the most vociferous proponents of muting the opinions and beliefs of conservatives. I mean conservatives of any stripe. Our society does not need protection from those who would seek to make us more moral. Most intelligent, thinking people know that an immoral society cannot stand. Consider the cause of the fall of the Roman Empire or the great Greek culture in the Helenistic period. They did not fall due to a lack of military strength. Their societies collapsed due to a lack of morality. Period. If anything, our society needs protection from those who would have us believe the real issue with the President and the Monica Lewinsky scandal is his adultery. It is a combination of his lack of any moral compass and his lying to a federal prosecutor and grand jury. How can our country expect to prosper under such misguided leadership? The president is not the only one with flaws. Consider those who opposed the tobacco legislation.
Don't get me wrong. I do not believe in legislating morality. The role of our government is solely to maintain law and order and protect us from foreign aggressors.
I've rambled far to long. Allow me to leave you with the words of Alexis de Toqueville, "America is great because she is good. When America ceases to be good, it will cease to be great."

My other comment was truncated. My question is that, if you are truly "A Voice for Moderation," then where are your "Quotes from the Left"? Mainstream and Moderate indicate the center to me, so if you are really interested in moderation, shouldn't you be equally concerned about attacks from the left on our individual freedoms?? They're out there, whether you recognize them or not.

Daaaahhhllings, I do SO adore Mainstream Loudoun's tenacity and noble efforts trying to protect citizens of our fair county's constitutional rights from the Hun--Mr. Black--and his strange Internet policy! I'm SO proud to be a charter member of ML, though less proud to be a US citizen this day, August 17 1998. Aghast at the very idea of our President--OUR PRESIDENT!!--randy dandy though he might be, subject to grilling from the madman Ken Starr about behavior that is no one's business except Mrs. Clinton's and Ms. Lewd-insky's parents. The Religious Right stinks of fascism! And Hillary knows it! How the poor lady was scorned when she blamed the RR for conspiring to destroy the President! How can this be happening to us so close to the end of the twentieth-century? Didn't the last World War teach us anything about the rights and responsibilities of an open and free society? I think Mainstream Loudoun's battle-axe's deserve every bit of praise for all of our hard work in the ongoing Internet policy battle with the quaint-minded members of the Library Board of Trustees.

To the Editor: If the full text of the Religious Freedom Amendment is so "chilling," as you put it, why not post it or give us a link to it? Wouldn't readers be won over to your cause by reading this text? Instead, your only argument is the claim that "our analysis is accurate." That is a subjective conclusion, of course, on your part. Why not let readers view the full text and draw their own conclusions? Were I a liberal, I would cry "censorship." Instead I will simply assume it is an oversight on your part, and one that will shortly be rectified.

Regarding your editor's note, you say that Mainstream Loundon supports requiring parental consent for
unfiltered Internet access. I assume that children whose parents have not specifically given this permission
would browse the Internet with censorware? Since you seem so quick to interject editorial commentary in the
guestbook, please clarify. [Editor's Note: Your assumption is correct.]

I found it very interesting that you had a very lengthy analysis of the Religious Freedom Amendment but failed to actually print anywhere the text of the amendment or even where you could go to see it. Were you afraid to let your readers see the object of your analysis?? Maybe you did not want to confuse any of your members with the
facts?? Since it was most likely an oversight, I will post the real words here for you: To secure the people's
right to acknowledge God according to the dictates of conscience: The people's right to pray and to recognize
their religious beliefs, heritage, or traditions on public property, including schools, shall not be infringed. The
Government shall not require any person to join in prayer or other religious activity, initiate or designate
school prayers, discriminate against religion, or deny equal access to a benefit on account of religion.

Editor's Note: Thank you. We had previously posted the full amendment, but we removed it when the wording was in a state of flux. Seeing the full text is chilling to those of us who believe in religious freedom for people of all faiths (or no faith). Although the amendment states that the government does not require a person participate in a religious activity, neither does it prohibit a teacher from leading a class in prayer, for example, or religious doctrine from being read over the PA system in a school. Our analysis remains accurate.
I am 14 and its like the only place I can go to see nude porno pictures is the library. My parents wont let me at home so the library is where I have to go or at school if any teachers arent around. Thanks for fighting for
me since I'm too young to do it myself. I especially like lesbian pictures. Also I like pictures of guys forcing
girls to obey them and making them to do whatever they say especially making them do it with other guys or
other girls like a orgy. Thanks again.

Editor's Note regarding messages from alleged "teenagers": The assumptions stated in these messages are erroneous. Mainstream Loudoun supports parental permission for unfiltered Internet access for minors.
I am a graduate student working on a communications law paper about Loudoun's case. Can I be added to your broadcast e-mails (if you have them) so that I'm notified when the case advances? Thank you.

Good luck in your up-coming court battle with the Loudoun Library Trustees'. We as a free society must not let these right wing fanatics think they can control our lives. If this were to happen, what freedoms we have would no longer exist.

Your victory will help us get the censorware removed from our public library terminals in Austin, Texas. Just today, the faulty CyberPatrol program blocked me from seeing http://www.liberty.com and http://www.maps.yahoo.com/yahoo/ BTW, our main library is named for the late John Henry Faulk, a long-time
resident and national free-speech advocate. But the library doesn't practice what he stood for! Check our status at the URL listed above.

Keep up the fight for our cyberfreedoms. The right-wing creeps don't like the Internet at all because they
cannot control it. They failed with book-burning, so now they are turning to burning cyberspace. Your group
must continue the fight to keep the the freedom of speech from being banned on the Net.

I hope someone challenges the Loudoun County Library Board's decision in court. I'm a college student
majoring in Public Policy, and my senior thesis is dealing with internet access issues at public libraries. The
more research I do about filters, the less I like them. I guess being against filtering fits my pattern of "radical
liberalism" - I subscribe to the Washington Post instead of the Washington Times. And my wife is a member of two "far left" organizations: ALA and NOW....

Excellent work. The thought of organized groups trying to restrict access to ANY information is troubling. It's funny that the same folks who against any restrictions of firearms, are FOR restrictions on literature. Does this ideology make one stupid and dangerous? Sure seems that way to me. Mainstream Loudoun, in my experience, is not in the habit of
bashing conservatives. It does take issue with those who,
in the words of Walter Cronkite, "cloak in religious garb their
challenge" to the principles of free speech, press and religion.
That is why I joined Mainstream. If the mainstream of Americans
ceases to support these principles, we are all in trouble.

I am really geeting sick and tired of all of your conservative bashing. Talk about stereotyping! If anything looks LEFT wing your web page looks LEFT out. You better balance your reports and bashing! And you know what I am talking about.
It is a shame that the good of Loudoun can not be done when a group like yours sets the agenda on something that YOU do not agree with. Believing as you do that you represent the MAINSTREAM of the county, far from it.
The other shame are people look Loudoun County and find your firte and brimestone. What a great introduction to Loudoun. Your organizations does not represent us well.
